Main House

The main house, situated within the farmyard, provides for the larger extended family where they can spend time together playing board games (provided), going for walks, watching sport or a movie or sitting out to wonder at the starry night sky. 

Finally, you retire to your comfortable bed with its quality linen and down duvet for a good night’s sleep in darkness and silence only broken by the sounds of farm animals.

This self-catering house comprises of three bedrooms sleeping nine, (bedroom 1 with a double bed and two single beds, bedroom 2 has a double bed and a baby cot and bedroom 3 has a double bed and a single bed), two bathrooms, a living room with an indoor braai area and separate fire place and a fully equipped kitchen including gas stove, fridge/freezer, dish washer, microwave and toaster. 

There is also an outside fireplace where you can braai or just spend time around a bonfire under the beautiful dark sky. There is also a fenced area where the kids can play safely.

Amandeldrift Solar Cottage

Amandeldrift solar cottage is an off-grid cottage where you can experience the open spaces, ridges, kloofs and rocky koppies of the Roggeveld Karoo without the intrusion of television, internet or cellphone reception.

This self-catering cottage consists of three bedrooms (one with double bed, one with two single beds and one with two three-quarter beds) sleeping six. Beautiful linen and down duvets keep you snug on cold Karoo nights. Imagine sleeping in complete darkness and quiet. 

The cottage also includes a separate bathroom and toilet, living room with a fireplace and a fully equipped kitchen including gas stove and fridge/freezer. The bookshelves are loaded with good reading and board games.

There is also an outside fireplace where you can spend time with your loved ones around a bonfire under the beautiful starry skies or have a braai. A smaller fenced play area for the kids within a larger camp where they can explore safely, further enhances relaxation.

No Wi-Fi, no DSTV, and no cell reception—just pure, uninterrupted relaxation.

Things to do at Karoo Rustigheid

Farmyard Experiences:  Immerse yourself in daily activities on the farm like bottle-feeding the lambs (“hanslammers”).

Bird Watching: Watch the birds dip and glide over the calm waters of an earthen dam on the farm.

Wildflower Experience: Take a stroll through the veld and admire the vibrant flowers. Though the area receives little rain, when it does, the dry earth bursts into a stunning, multi-colored carpet of wildflowers that stretches for kilometers across the Hantam-Roggeveld.

Hiking & Biking Experience On The Farm: Explore the outdoors by hiking, biking, or enjoying a leisurely walk through the veld with your loved ones.

Snow Experiences: Brrrr… By South African standards, Sutherland is bitterly cold in winter. It lays claim to the coldest winters in the country. The mercury plunges well below zero at night, sometimes as low as -16 degrees Celsius, and the area gets heavy snow several times each winter.
